    In 2009 the cluster Cool Silicon e. V. was founded, aiming to increase energy efficiency within the field of information and communications technology (ICT). Today, 60 companies and research institutes from the leading microelectronics region Silicon Saxony are organized within Cool Silicon e. V.

    The core competency of the business location Saxony is micro- and nanoelectronic technology as well as the sectors in which micro- and nanoelectronic technology is crucial. A key sector herein is modern ICT.

    Within the scope of the Cool Silicon cluster these substantial competencies are beeing used to develop energy efficient solutions in the areas of computing, mobile communication and sensor technology - up to the point of energy autarkic systems. Key for success is an intense exchange of ideas and know-how between partners working in different fields, as well as the knowledge transfer from academia to industry.
