The Construction Plant-hire Association (CPA) is the leading trade association in the UK for companies that hire plant and equipment to the construction industry. CPA was established over 80 years ago and now has circa 1,900 members. CPA members supply over 85% of hired plant to the construction industry.
CPA Special Interest Groups have been formed to tackle issues within specialist sectors, for example, mobile cranes. As well as networking and information-sharing, these groups frame the standards and practices relevant to that sector.
What CPA does for Members
Services provided for Members include the CPA Model Conditions. These are regarded as the industry standard for plant hire agreements.
CPA Best Practice Guides cover the essential health, safety and legal requirements for operating plant, and have had endorsement from the HSE and industry.
Members also have access to comprehensive advice on business problems, as well as links to insurance, financial and other support services. All Members are kept up to date with email alerts, through the CPA website, and through the quarterly CPA Bulletin.
Government and Regulators
CPA provides a link between Government bodies and the plant-hire industry. It has worked closely with the likes of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) on a range of issues.
CPA also coordinates the Strategic Forum Plant Safety Group, which draws together all parts of the construction supply chain to produce a series of safety publications.
