Ils impactent notre vie quotidienne, notre santé, nos économies... « Ils », ce sont des myriades de particules et micro-organismes en suspension dans des aérosols au-dessus de l’Océan. Leurs interactions, entre atmosphère et surface, dans la machinerie climatique globale n’est pas inconnue. Mais nous ne parvenons pas à les paramétrer. Les pertes induites par des dérèglements dont ils sont vecteurs se chiffrent en centaine de milliards de dollars pour les pêcheries ou l’aquaculture. Mais nous sommes impuissants à comprendre, détecter et alerter, faute encore une fois de données.
Capter ces données manquantes, c’est l’objectif du programme Iodysséus. Unique, il consiste à développer un outil original, économique et souple, faisant appel aux performances d’un multicoque géant capable de se déplacer à la vitesse des systèmes météo qui véhiculent les données recherchées. Courir, naviguer à la poursuite de records originaux pour faire avancer la connaissance, c’est notre manière de donner à la course au large l’opportunité d’entrer dans une dimension à la mesure des enjeux majeurs du XXIe siècle. De tels défis engagent naturellement la responsabilité sociétale et environnementale des acteurs économiques vers qui nous nous tournons aujourd’hui pour nous accompagner.
