La aportación de la Asociación a las economías locales es significativa. La figura del palacio de congresos es relativamente reciente en nuestro país, ya que hasta la década de los 90 no se produjo una notable proliferación.
Un grupo de profesionales inquietos, ante la importancia creciente que suponía el producto turístico de reuniones, decidió constituir una asociación con el objetivo de compartir experiencias y representar intereses comunes. De este modo se constituye, en noviembre de 1995, la Asociación de Palacios de Congresos de España, con una cifra sustancial de 21 palacios miembros, inspirándose en el modelo de la AIPC (Asociación Internacional de Palacios de Congresos).
La Asociación de Palacios de Congresos de España tiene como principales objetivos:
- Defender y representar los intereses comunes de los palacios miembros.
- Poner en marcha acciones comunes encaminadas a defender la figura del Palacio de Congresos como espacio físico y estructura organizativa, y a actuar como eje vertebrador del turismo de congresos y reuniones en España.
- Permitir el intercambio de experiencias e ideas en cuanto a temas propios de la actividad desarrollada.
- Elaborar propuestas, consultas y acuerdos con las administraciones competentes.
Los principales proyectos de futuro de la Asociación son:
- Ser testimonio vivo de la aportación que los Palacios de Congresos realizan al sector del turismo español, especialmente el de reuniones.
- Continuar siendo plataforma adecuada para un conjunto de edificios emblemáticos, de gran valor arquitectónico y urbanístico, que contribuyen a generar significativos ingresos a las economías locales donde se ubican.
- Seguir siendo foro de debate y punto de encuentro cultural.
- Convertir a España en una potencia turística de reuniones, ofreciendo un destino atractivo y un servicio competitivo a nivel internacional.
