La Universidad de La Sabana es el resultado de años de trabajo de una comunidad académica en busca de cultivar profesionales y seres humanos excelentes que trabajen por el desarrollo del país y la sociedad.
En 1979 a partir del INSE se funda La Universidad de La Sabana como institución de educación superior de carácter privado. La Universidad inicia su misión de buscar, descubrir, comunicar y conservar la verdad, inspirada en la visión cristiana del hombre y del mundo.
En 1985 nace la Escuela de Negocios de la Universidad de La Sabana, INALDE. En 2010 la Escuela recibe la acreditación internacional por parte de la Association of MBA ́S, AMBA.
En 2006 la Universidad recibe la Acreditación Institucional de Alta Calidad. Resolución 2576 del 30 de mayo de 2006 con vigencia de 4 años, en 2010 se obtiene la Renovación de la Acreditación por 6 años.
En 2009 se da inicio al Doctorado de Biociencias, y en el 2014 se gradúan los primeros doctores. En 2015 se otorga el primer doctorado honoris causa al Profesor Honorario Jorge Reynolds Pombo, reconocido a nivel mundial por inventar en 1958 el primer marcapaso artificial externo.
En 2016, la Universidad entró al ranking Merco por primera vez y ocupó el puesto 39 entre las 100 empresas con mejor reputación en Colombia, siendo la tercera dentro de las cinco universidades que fueron incluidas en el ranking.
A finales del 2015 se comienza la construcción de un nuevo edificio, la cimentación contará con 32mil metros cuadrados de construcción y estará compuesto por cuatro sub edificios de cinco plantas cada uno.
Actualmente la Universidad ofrece 22 programas de pregrado, 16 especializaciones médico quirúrgicas, 54 especializaciones, 26 maestrías y 3 doctorados.
