Créée en 2002, elle regroupe aujourd’hui 47 associations locales (Bureau Des Étudiants) et 19 associations consultatives. La FNEK fonctionne selon un modèle ascendant, c’est-à-dire que chaque étudiant adhère à son association locale (son BDE), qui adhère elle-même à la FNEK. Chaque association a un porte-parole, appelé « administrateur FNEK », qui fait entendre la voix de ses adhérents.
Le Bureau National de la FNEK, élu chaque année, représente la structure et assure la coordination des différents projets mis en place. Les administrateurs et le Bureau National se rassemblent lors de Conseils d’Administration et Assemblées Générales.
La FNEK est aujourd’hui la seule fédération représentative des 11 000 étudiants en kinésithérapie. Elle porte leur voix dans les différentes instances nationales et participe activement à la promotion et à l’évolution de la formation en kinésithérapie.
