    [Automatic translation follows] Mixed union for sustainable development of the Gironde estuary

    Public Territorial Basin Establishment (EPTB) on the Gironde estuary, the Smiddest coordinates the various actors involved in the fields of water and water resources management, the environment and the prevention of floods.
    Coordinator together on his territory, he pilots and hosts several action programs including the Sage "Gironde estuary and associated environments", approved in 2013, which aims to preserve environmental issues in the development of the estuary and the PAPI (flood prevention action program) of the estuary, labeled in 2015.
    In addition, the union endeavors to make known, enhance and promote estuarian identity by study and mediation animation actions which contribute to the preservation of this unique natural heritage. Finally, the Smiddest is also manager of the emblematic goalkeeper of the estuary, the Cordouan lighthouse, of which he ensures guarding, maintenance, tourism as well as heritage management following the registration on the UNESCO World Heritage List in July 2021.

    Etablissement Public Territorial de Bassin (EPTB) sur l’Estuaire de la Gironde, le SMIDDEST assure la coordination des différents acteurs intervenant dans les domaines de la gestion de la ressource en eau et des milieux aquatiques, de l’environnement et de la prévention des inondations.
    Coordinateur ensemblier sur son territoire, il pilote et anime plusieurs programmes d’actions dont le SAGE “Estuaire de la Gironde et milieux associés”, approuvé en 2013, qui vise à préserver les enjeux environnementaux dans le développement de l’Estuaire et le PAPI (Programme d’Action de Prévention des Inondations) de l’Estuaire, labellisé en 2015.
    Par ailleurs, le Syndicat s’attache à faire connaître, valoriser et promouvoir l'identité estuarienne par des actions d'animation d'étude et de médiation qui contribuent à la préservation de ce patrimoine naturel unique. Enfin, le SMIDDEST est également gestionnaire du gardien emblématique de l’Estuaire, le phare de Cordouan, dont il assure le gardiennage, l’entretien, la mise en tourisme ainsi que la gestion patrimoniale suite à l’inscription sur la Liste du patrimoine mondial de l’UNESCO en juillet 2021.
