Created in 2014, the Mixed Syndicate of Argens aims to organize a solidarity and efficient interterritorial governance bringing together 8 EPCI (74 municipalities) to ensure coherently on the scale of the Argens watershed:

- Integrated management of aquatic environments through the maintenance, development and management of watercourses
In its functions of EPTB, the SMA ensures:

- Missions relating to Gemapi competence.

Furthermore, as a Public Territorial Basin (EPTB), it is intended to assume missions of general interest.

Créé en 2014, le Syndicat Mixte de l'Argens a eu pour objectif d’organiser une gouvernance interterritoriale solidaire et efficace regroupant 8 EPCI (74 communes) pour assurer de façon cohérente à l’échelle du bassin versant de l’Argens :
- une gestion des inondations à travers la mise en œuvre d’un Programme d’Actions de Prévention des Inondations (PAPI) complet
- une gestion intégrée des milieux aquatiques à travers l’entretien, l’aménagement et la gestion des cours d’eau
Dans ses fonctions d’EPTB, le SMA assure :
- l’animation et la mise en oeuvre du Schéma d’Aménagement et de Gestion des Eaux (SAGE) de l’Argens
- les fonctions de la structure porteuse de la Commission Locale de l’Eau (CLE)
- les missions relevant de la compétence GeMAPI.
Le SMA est également la structure porteuse désignée pour accompagner l’émergence des différentes planifications dans le domaine de l’eau, des milieux aquatiques et de prévention des inondations et favoriser leur mise en œuvre : animation, appui, coordination, concertation, maitrise d’ouvrage.
Par ailleurs, en tant qu’Etablissement Public Territorial de Bassin (EPTB), il a vocation à assumer des missions d’intérêt général.
