SIGRE Medicamento y Medio Ambiente es el Sistema Integrado de Gestión del sector farmacéutico. Su objetivo es recoger los envases y los restos de medicamentos que se generan en los domicilios particulares, a través del Punto SIGRE de la farmacia, y ofrecerles un tratamiento medioambiental adecuado.
SIGRE surge como iniciativa de los laboratorios farmacéuticos, a la que se unieron posteriormente los farmacéuticos y la distribución, para evitar que los envases y los restos de medicamentos se tiren a la basura o por el desagüe, con el posible perjuicio medioambiental que esta acción pueda suponer; pero también para sensibilizar a los ciudadanos sobre la importancia de hacer un uso responsable de los medicamentos, fomentando hábitos sanitarios como la revisión periódica del botiquín.
De esta manera, de la actividad de SIGRE se derivan dos beneficios: medioambientales, que favorecen el cuidado de nuestro entorno, y sanitarios, que evitan la automedicación inadecuada y los posibles riesgos producidos por el consumo de medicamentos caducados o en mal estado.
SIGRE es una entidad sin ánimo de lucro, y su financiación es aportada por los laboratorios farmacéuticos, quienes pagan una cuota por cada envase que se pone a la venta en la oficina de farmacia.
