Founded by Angelin Preljocaj in December 1984, shortly joined by Nicole Saïd in January 1985, the PRELJOCAJ company became the National Choreographic Centre of Champigny-sur-Marne and Val-de-Marne in 1989.
In 1996, the ballet was welcomed at the Cité du Livre in Aix-en-Provence and became the Ballet Preljocaj – National Choreographic Centre of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region, the Bouches-du-Rhône Department, the Pays d’Aix Community and the City of Aix-en-Provence.
The Ballet Preljocaj is now settled into its new home in Aix-en-Provence called PAVILLON NOIR, designed by the famous architect Rudy Ricciotti (MuCEM in Marseille and 19M for CHANEL in Paris).
Since founding his company, now composed of 25 dancers, Angelin Preljocaj has created 55 choreographic works, ranging from solo to larger formations. The Ballet performs about 100 dates per year on tour, in France and abroad.

Fondée en décembre 1984 par Angelin Preljocaj, très vite rejoint par Nicole Saïd en janvier 1985, la Compagnie PRELJOCAJ devient Centre Chorégraphique National de Champigny-sur-Marne et du Val-de-Marne en 1989.
En 1996, la compagnie est accueillie à la Cité du Livre à Aix-en-Provence et devient Ballet Preljocaj – Centre Chorégraphique National de la Région Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur, du Département des Bouches-du-Rhône, de la Communauté du Pays d’Aix et de la Ville d’Aix-en-Provence.
En 2006, elle investit le PAVILLON NOIR conçu par Rudy Ricciotti, architecte qui acquiert une renommée internationale avec la réalisation du MuCEM à Marseille et plus récemment du 19M, Manufacture de la Mode à Paris-Aubervilliers.
Le Ballet Preljocaj est aujourd’hui constitué de 25 danseurs permanents, plus de 100 représentations par an sont effectuées en France comme à l’étranger. Depuis la création de sa compagnie, Angelin Preljocaj a créé 55 chorégraphies, du solo aux grandes formes.
