Description
  • Value proposition

    Building positive
    carbon negative.

Low Carbon Materials (LCM) is a climate-tech company servicing the green construction sector. Science-based and purpose-driven, LCM works closely with construction partners to develop innovative, sustainable, and carbon-negative/low-carbon building materials.

LCM has won a series of awards, including The Earthshot Prize Finalist in the 'Fix Our Climate' category, in recognition of its innovative, waste-based aggregate - OSTO.

LCM's flagship product, OSTO, is a carbon-negative aggregate designed to replace traditional aggregates in the production of concrete. Concrete has a significant carbon footprint, contributing 8% of CO2 emissions globally*, however, with building material innovation and new material application, this figure can be hugely reduced - concrete can be made carbon neutral by utilising LCM's OSTO in concrete mixes.

The company, a spin-out from Durham University, was founded by three Ph.D. students, Dr. Natasha Boulding, Dr. Phil Buckley, and Scott Bush. Both Dr. Boulding and Mr. Bush have been recognised by Forbes 30 Under 30 2023.

✈️ The Heathrow Team Came to See ACLA® in Action

🤝 Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting representatives from Heathrow – alongside our partners at MGL Group and Durham County Council.

🌿 The visit gave the team a first-hand look at how ACLA®, our carbon-negative aggregate, is seamlessly integrated into MGL Group’s Net Zero Asphalt.

🚧 From production at the plant to final surfacing at Burnhill Way, our guests saw just how simple, scalable, and effective our solution is.

💬 Special thanks to Daniel Vickers, Panagiotis Stratos, Irina Aleksandrova, Dave Whitehouse FIHE, FIAT. NEBS, and Paul Phillips from Associated Asphalt Contracting Ltd for coming along.

👷 We’re proud to be working with MGL Group to reduce carbon across their projects. We’re looking forward to discussing doing the same with Heathrow.

📍 Want to learn more about ACLA® and how it's being deployed in real-world projects? Check out our case studies: https://lnkd.in/eezFfd7P

Our CEO, Natasha Boulding shared the stage with Hannah Jones and Dimple Patel to explore how innovative climate tech can scale to drive real impact. Our takeaways ⬇️

✅ Scaling climate solutions requires collaboration between innovators, policymakers, and industry leaders.

✅ Simplicity is key - drop-in solutions like LCM’s carbon-negative materials remove barriers to adoption.

✅The growing demand for data centres necessitates a focus on their total carbon footprint. This includes not just operational energy but also the significant embodied carbon in their construction materials. Exploring low-carbon alternatives is essential.

🌱 At Low Carbon Materials (LCM), we’re proving that sustainability and scalability go hand in hand. Our materials are actively decarbonising roads and the built environment today!

A huge thank you to The Earthshot Prize and Cloud & AI Infrastructure London for hosting such an important conversation and to everyone who attended the event.

🏛️ Wrapping up an incredible two days at the Terra Carta Roundtables & Exhibition!

🌍 We were honoured to exhibit at the Sustainable Markets Initiative Terra Carta Roundtables & Exhibition at Hampton Court Palace with the Earthshot Prize. The event marks five years since His Majesty King Charles III founded the SMI.

💡 The SMI is the world’s go-to private sector organisation for sustainable transition. It facilitates action between world leaders and CEOs to position sustainability at the heart of global value creation.

🚀 At Low Carbon Materials, we believe climate solutions can be simple and actively drive change. Exhibiting alongside global innovators reaffirmed the importance of scalable, practical materials in accelerating decarbonisation.

👏 A huge thank you to The Earthshot Prize for featuring us as part of Terra Carta, alongside our fellow 2022 Earthshot Prize finalist (and winner!) Notpla. It was fantastic to also be exhibiting alongside Polymateria, Tokamak Energy, and Space Solar.
