Inauguré en février 2001, il est le 10ème équipement ainsi labellisé. Le Zénith répond à une forte attente du public qui vient du département et bien au-delà, pour assister aux nombreux spectacles et manifestations proposés.
Hormis Paris et Montpellier, qui sont en toile sur structure métallique, toutes les autres salles de ce type sont des constructions "en dur". Ce choix de construction est devenu nécessaire pour des raisons d'insonorisation.
On compte actuellement 18 Zéniths répartis sur l’hexagone.
La Métropole Rouen Normandie a confié l’exploitation du Zénith à une société privé qui a pour objectifs :
- Le développement et la promotion de la salle de spectacles,
- La gestion de la programmation ainsi que l'accueil des manifestations,
- La gestion et la responsabilité de l'ensemble des relations avec les usagers,
- L'entretien et la maintenance de la salle.
C’est la société Seine-Zénith, composée de 7 permanents, qui assure actuellement l’exploitation quotidienne du Zénith. Cependant, lors d’une grosse manifestation, le Zénith peut fourmiller de 20 à 200 personnes (techniciens, artistes, cuisiniers, maquilleurs, couturiers, hôtesses, agents de sécurité, infirmiers...) qui s’affairent autour du spectacle.
Chaque année, le Zénith accueille :
