ICA is a research laboratory that focuses on studying structures, systems and mechanical processes. The ICA was created on June 30, 2009 by bringing together three research structures in Midi-Pyrénées: the Research Center Tools, Materials and Processes (CROMEP) of IMT Mines Albi, the Mechanical Department Structures and Materials (DMSM) of ISAE-SUPAERO and the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory of Toulouse (LGMT) of INSA and UPS.
ICA is a mixed research unit (UMR) of the CNRS since January 1, 2016.

L’ICA est un laboratoire de recherche qui s’attache à l’étude des structures, des systèmes et des procédés mécaniques. Nos secteurs d’activités s’inscrivent dans ceux des industries mécaniques avec une attention particulière accordée aux projets des domaines de l’aéronautique, de l’espace, du transport et de l’énergie. Nos travaux portent généralement sur la modélisation du comportement, l’instrumentation et l’étude de la durabilité des structures ou produits considérés. Une part importante de nos recherches porte sur les matériaux composites, lesquels prennent aujourd’hui une place importante dans les structures.
L'ICA a été crée le 30 juin 2009 par le rapprochement de trois structures de recherche en Midi-Pyrénées: le Centre de Recherche Outillages, Matériaux et Procédés (CROMeP) de IMT Mines Albi, le Département Mécanique Structures et Matériaux (DMSM) de l'ISAE-SupAéro et le Laboratoire de Génie Mécanique de Toulouse (LGMT) de l'INSA et de l'UPS.
L'ICA est une unité mixte de recherche (UMR) du CNRS depuis le 1er janvier 2016.
L'ICA a 5 tutelles : le CNRS, l'IMT Mines Albi, l'INSA de Toulouse, l'ISAE et l'Université Paul Sabatier.
